Green River: Last Day of Steelhead Season, 02/28/09

So, I knew in the back of my head that today would be the last time that I’d be swinging for Steelhead on the Green River so I called up Thao and he agreed that it would be good to get on the water.  We left my house around 10:30 and arrived to Flaming Geyser state park a little after 11.  There was the usual park traffic from families to the dog walkers but we proceeded to suit up and head to the tantalizing waters edge.  Just in the parking lot I spotted an unusual car that I’d never seen before.  The Nissan GT-R, after the rally inspired Skyline GT-R.  Cool car, check out the photos herein.  We fished a few beautiful looking runs without success, until we found an ideal piece of water and then it happened…

Just at the time I asked Thao to film me spey casting, I got a tug on my second cast/swing.  No steelhead, but at least it was a tug.  Beautiful cutthroat with a voracious appetite that went for the big General Practioner.  That was the only fish of the day…

Equipment: Loomis 13’9″ GLX Dredger with Skagit 550 on Nautilus CCF12, Salmon type 3 sink tip.
